Whitney M. Young, Jr. Equal Opportunity Mardi Gras Gala

February 2, 2016

The Urban League of the Upstate will host its annual Whitney M. Young, Jr. Humanitarian Award Mardi Gras Gala on Thursday, February 11, 2016 at 6:00 pm at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Greenville, SC.  This year’s event is a combination of our previous Whitney M. Young Jr. Humanitarian Award and Equal Opportunity Day Dinners. In keeping with the previous years’ format, the event will pay homage to the late Whitney M. Young, Jr., former National Urban League President and will salute the great works of those in the Upstate Community who selflessly work to make significant advancements in the areas of education, volunteerism, corporate citizenship, and inspirational leadership.

For your listening pleasure, musical entertainment will be provided by the Horizon Band. The soulful sounds of Horizon Band are provided by skillful 16 and 17-year-olds with talents for Gospel, Jazz and R&B. Referred to as “The Small Band with a Big Sound,” this band has played in the presence of Gladys Knight at a Master Class for the Auntie Karen Foundation and performed at the 41st National Convention for Jack and Jill of America, Incorporated in Charlotte, NC. They were also the youngest artists performing at the Dizzy Gillespie Jazz Festival in Cheraw, SC.
