Women in Philanthropy hosts the 16th Annual Power of the Purse on May 23 to raise money for Midlands parents in crisis

United Way of the Midlands’ Women in Philanthropy hosts the 16th Annual Power of the Purse event Thursday, May 23, 6:30 p.m. at the Columbia Museum of Art, brought to you by Pink Carper Sponsor Bank of America.
“Power of the Purse is Women in Philanthropy’s biggest, most exciting fundraising event of the year, and this year is no different,” said Sara Fawcett, President and CEO of United Way of the Midlands. “Now in its sixteenth consecutive year, Women in Philanthropy investors continue to grow this event, and ultimately, have greater impact to ensure local women and children emerging from crisis situations have the social, professional and financial supports to succeed.”
Women in Philanthropy raises funds for programs that support women and children’s causes in the Midlands. One of those programs is Homeless No More’s Ready, Willing and Able personal coaching program that provides life skills, professional development and personal coaching for single parents in crisis, which was awarded a $50,000 grant this year.
“As women, it’s so important to lift up other women and encourage them to reach their full potential. The reality is that not every woman has the same resources, and they often need a helping hand,” said Erin McCaskill, Senior Vice President at First Citizens Bank, and this year’s Power of the Purse chair. “I wouldn’t be where I am today without successful women in my life guiding me and providing advice and support. I am a mother of two little girls, and I want them to grow up to be strong, independent women that understand the importance giving back and supporting the people that are the heart of that community. Power of the Purse embodies just that.”
The event will be held inside the Columbia Museum of Art and outside at Boyd Plaza, the museum’s newest addition, at 1515 Main St. Guests will be greeted with a glass of champagne upon arrival provided by Champagne Sponsor Benedict College. The event will feature a live and silent auction including designer purses and other luxury items for men and women thanks to BB&T. Guests will enjoy food from Southern Way Catering, an open bar, and live music from Prettier than Matt and the Rob Franco and Friend Jazz Duo sponsored by Matt and Mary Grace Mungo. Valet parking provided by Schmoyer and Co., LLC will be available.
Ticket prices for Women in Philanthropy investors and Young Leaders Society donors are $50 per person. Guest tickets are $60 per person. Tickets may be purchased at the door for $70. Visit womeninphilanthropy.com to purchase tickets in advance. The evening’s dress is cocktail attire.
