World Trade Center Charleston Luncheon

CHARLESTON, SC – July 25, 2012 – World Trade Center Charleston (WTCC), an initiative of the Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce,  announced a premier luncheon event, Wednesday, July 25, at Montague Terrace 5001 Coliseum Dr. from 11:30 a.m.  – 1:30 p.m. This is opportunity to connect with other local Charleston business leaders focused on global trade growth and hear about the issues and opportunities surrounding international trade.

World Trade Center Charleston is a member of the World Trade Center’s Association, a recognizable symbol of focused economic strength in world commerce.  Anchored by the unique combination of a World Trade Center with the dynamic offerings of the Charleston Metro Chamber, WTCC will be a bustling hub of import and export activity through programs and services designed to enhance international trade opportunities in the region.

This year’s luncheon will feature keynote speaker Phillip Poland, Esq., Director, Export Control & Trade Integrity, International Trade Affairs & Compliance at DHL Express (USA) Inc. Poland is responsible of overseeing Customs-Trade Partnership against Terrorism C-TPAT compliance, export regulatory compliance, working trade policy issues, and addressing compliance concerns when potential violations occur. Prior to his current position with DHL Express, he worked in the area of contracts and international trade for two major aerospace companies. While working in the aerospace industry he had responsibility over all aspects of international trade compliance at U.S. and foreign sites, as well as, drafting and negotiating international contracts terms. Phillip teaches contracting and international trade classes for St. Louis University School of Professional Studies.

For a regional perspective, Jim Newsome, president and CEO, South Carolina Ports Authority will discuss trade and growth opportunities developing through the port and other internationally focused mechanisms.

The luncheon event will recognize two award winners.  Local international business guru Bentley World-Packaging will receive the first-ever International Service Provider of the Year award for their impressive global presence and local growth. The Importer/Exporter of the Year award will be presented to Daimler Vans Manufacturing for the commitment to the development of international trade.

The core mission of the World Trade Center Charleston is to assist entrepreneurs in import and/or export. By building the trading community it can help to increase incomes and expand the horizon of opportunities for companies of any size.
