128-year-old nonprofit focuses on homeless prevention for Lowcountry Giving Day

Family Services, Inc. (FSI) is getting ready for the 3rd annual Lowcountry Giving Day (LGD), initially started by Coastal Community Foundation in response to Give Local America. This year, LGD will be held on Tuesday, May 3 and more than 179 nonprofits from the coastal region are registered to participate in the multi-million dollar fundraising event. Lowcountry Giving Day is a 24 hour nationwide online crowd funding event. It allows FSI and other participating organizations to share their programs with people who may need help and also with new potential donors.

The goal is to unite nonprofits, business owners, and citizens of the Lowcountry with the intent of making the “coastal community a better place to live, grow, create, and learn through a spirit of generosity and collaboration” according to the Coastal Community Foundation. Each participating nonprofit organization will have an impact statement which helps donors understand how their gift will be used by the nonprofit to make a positive impact towards a specific cause.

Thanks to all of the generosity of last year’s donors, FSI was able to raise $9,628. This year, FSI hopes to surpass last year’s number and raise $10,000 which will be applied to programs such as One Less Homeless Vet. If donors would like for their donation to support a specific program at FSI, this can be arranged.

“With unrestricted donations from the community, FSI can maximize the value of the contribution to reinvest back into the community,” Marketing & Development Director Jenna Johnson said. “We have proven that time and time again.”

In a recent report by NeighborWorks America, for every dollar FSI received from grantors, FSI was able to put $326 back into the community through FSI’s homeownership programs.

Please make checks payable to Family Services, Inc. And include a typed or written note with your name and contact information (including your email address). There is a $10 minimum when gifts are made online. Gifts are tax deductible and that information will be sent to donors after May 3.
