CHARLESTON, SC – 2nd Sunday on King Street, Charleston’s popular shopping, dining and cultural event, continues December 11, 2011. From 1:00-5:00 PM King Street will be closed to all vehicular traffic from Queen Street north to Calhoun as businesses invite the public to enjoy the best shopping, dining and services the region has to offer indoors, on the sidewalks and in the street.
This month 2nd Sunday’s soundtrack will feature holiday music, cool jazz and classical works by some of Charleston’s most loved musicians. Shrimp City Slim, Sollie Puddin Jenkins, Nikolai Svishev, Michael Lindsey, Tim Church and Austin Fitzhenry will be joined by students from the Charleston Catholic School Band, performers from the Deuce Theatre’s Humbug Holiday Hour and a special song and dance surprise at Horlbeck Alley and King.
The Daughters of St. Paul will host a bake sale at Pauline Books & Media Center at 243 King Street.
The 2nd Sunday Information Tent will be located near Wentworth and King, offering parking vouchers, coupons and door prizes, this month courtesy of Halls Chophouse and Savannah Bee Company.
Impressionist painter Rick Reinert will exhibit his King Street Series at Reinert LePrince Gallery, 179 King Street, where musician Nikolai Svishev will perform, Chucktown Tavern will serve refreshments and Reinert’s beautiful 2nd Sunday Greeting Cards will be for sale. Reinert’s cards support 2nd Sunday and are also available at the Charleston Preservation Society Book and Gift Shop, and the Charleston Visitors Center.
Parking vouchers for two hours of free parking in most City Garages are available online at www.2ndsundayonkingstreet.com and at the information tent. Many of the parking garages on Upper King Street have become popular for 2nd Sunday, where restaurants Halls Chophouse, The Macintosh, The Swamp Fox, and Closed for Business offer Sunday brunch.
