2nd Sunday this Weekend on King Street

July 6, 2011

2nd Sunday on King Street, Charleston’s most popular shopping, dining and cultural event, continues July, 10 2011. This month 2nd Sunday is sponsored by Baker Motor Company. From 1:00 – 5:00 PM King Street will be closed to all vehicular traffic from Queen Street north to Calhoun as businesses invite everyone to enjoy the best shopping, dining and services the region has to offer, both on the sidewalks and in the street.

Peter Kiral and Charleston Virtuosi will perform on Lower King Street. Guitarist Michael Lindsey will be at Market & King, and Robin Platte’s folk-country band will be on shady George Street in front of Patat Spot Friet & Falafel.

The Charleston Preservation Society Book & Gift Shop will focus on maritime and outdoor activities. John R. Young, a registered Charleston Tour Guide and author of A Walk in the Parks, will sign and discuss his book.

The Preservation Society will also have fly-fishing and fly-tying demonstrations on the street, courtesy of The Charleston Angler, just opened in the newly remodeled Historic Charleston City Market.

Many King Street shops are thinking Christmas in July, with semi-annual sales like the one at Brooks Brothers.

Lily Charleston, 196 King will celebrate the arrival of Black Jade, Marie Antoinette’s own perfume recreated by Lubin and available exclusively at Lily. Stop by for a sneak preview before their Bastille Day reception on Thursday 5-7:00 PM.

Don’t forget Upper King. The street isn’t closed, but many restaurants and businesses are open and there are several parking garages where parking vouchers may be redeemed. Download garage map here. Halls Chophouse, O-Ku, Closed for Business, Cupcake, Monza, and Juanita Greenberg’s will all be open and serving food and drinks to 2nd Sunday customers.

More details are available at www.secondsundayonkingstreet.com, along with downloadable parking vouchers good for two hours of free parking in any City of Charleston parking garage.

Join us this Sunday for one of King Street’s most enjoyable traditions.
