College of Charleston Offers NASBITE Certified Global Business Professional (CGBP) Exam Prep Course

March 30, 2010

CHARLESTON, SC – March 30, 2010 – The Global Business Resource Center at the College of Charleston is once again giving business community members, students, and faculty the opportunity to become NASBITETM Certified Global Business ProfessionalTM (CGBPTM) designees.  As preparation for those who want to take the national exam on June 12, 2010, the College will offer a CGBPTM overview session in the Beatty Center of the School of Business on Saturday, April 24, 2010, as well as the two-day full training course on Friday, April 30, and Saturday, May 1, 2010.

The demand for international business skills continues to grow, and research done by NASBITETM shows that companies are having difficulty finding globally-trained professionals. The CGBPTM credential sets the benchmark for global trade knowledge. Certification shows employers that an individual has the knowledge required to be successful in the global commerce arena.

The CGBPTM overview session, which runs from 9AM until 4PM, outlines the entire range of topics covered in the national exam, thereby allowing individuals to decide where their knowledge gaps lie before they begin to study for the exam.  In the two-day training course, one-half day will be devoted to a more in-depth look at each of the four knowledge domains tested in the national exam: global business management, global marketing, global supply chain management and international trade finance.  All classes will be taught by the College’s own CGBPTM-certified faculty members.  Each day of the two-day training course will begin at 8AM and end at 5PM.  The cost of the overview session is $150.  While the full two-day course is $395, each individual half-day costs $125.   The costs for the exam are separate from these training costs (please visit www.nasbitecgbp.org/  for information on the CGBPTM exam).

The fact that we already have nine certified faculty members, with more planning to take the exam, shows our commitment to a global education, said Kathryn Banks, associate director of the Global Business Resource Center. These professors are able to impress upon College of Charleston students the importance of a strong global business education. As globalization continues, the global awareness that the School of Business instills in its graduates, through programs like the CGBPTM, will keep them competitive in the worldwide labor force.  As of February, two more College students, Micah Cannon and Amanda Franklin, passed the exam, greatly increasing their global qualifications in a difficult job market and beyond.

The next round of training will be scheduled for Winter, 2010-11, in anticipation of the national exam date in February, 2011.  For more information on the CGBPTM certification or the training sessions or to register, please contact Kathryn Banks at [email protected].
