City seeking residents’ input on neighborhood park

October 15, 2019

The City of Greenville Parks & Recreation Department has developed a survey to help determine how residents currently use Kiwanis Park (2 Old Augusta Rd) and gather input on the types of playground amenities they would like to see added to the park. The existing Kiwanis Park playground structure is more than 10 years old and is slated for replacement in 2020 as part of the Neighborhood Parks Program (NPP) initiative. The City launched the NPP in 2018, investing $3.6 million to make targeted improvements in neighborhood parks. In the first NPP cycle, the City upgraded 24 park spaces and replaced a total of 11 playgrounds to address a backlog of needs.

Going forward, the NPP plan calls for the replacement of 1 – 2 playgrounds each year. This replacement program keeps the department’s focus on safety, ensuring that playgrounds are replaced at the end of their useful life, and alleviates the deferred maintenance of older structures.

The Kiwanis Park survey is available online at https://parks.greenvillesc.gov/Kiwanis and the deadline to participate is Thursday, November 14.
