The Unumb Center for Neurodevelopment’s newest service, Job Training, kicks off on August 26th
August 16, 2021After a successful summer pilot, The Unumb Center for Neurodevelopment now offers Job Training, also known as Pre-Employment Transition Services, for South Carolina residents between 13-21 years of age that have a documented diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder. Two semester-long sessions will be held during each school year beginning in September and January; the fall 2021 session begins August 26th and weekly meetings will be held on Thursday evenings.
Job Training is a skill acquisition service in the areas of job-exploration counseling, work-based learning, instruction in self-advocacy, and workplace readiness training. Work-based learning features workplace simulation as a t-shirt printer designing and printing real shirts at The Unumb Center Print Shop, located inside The Unumb Center at 1505 Blanding Street, Columbia SC 20201.
Each prospective participant must complete an assessment to determine if The UCN’sresources can meet their needs. Specific times will be assigned following a recommendation to participate. The UCN is also resuming weekly, in-person Social Skills Groups this fall beginning September 13th. Children and adolescents between 4-21 years of age with social skills deficits are welcome to participate, regardless of diagnosis.
