April 21, 2017

Indie Grits, the Southeast’s premier film and culture festival in Columbia, S.C. for DIY media-makers, has received a grant from The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences, which will support Indie Grits Visiones, the 2017 festival’s theme, exploring the influence of the rapidly growing Latino population in the Southeastern United States through arts and film.

Indie Grits Visiones (April 20-23, 2017) has received a $5,000 grant from The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Arts organizations nationwide submitted more than 200 proposals for grants and Indie Grits Visiones was one of 45 organizations selected for funding.

“Indie Grits continues to provide innovative programming year after year, and we are honored that The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has chosen to fund Visiones this year,” said Seth Gadsden, co-director of Indie Grits

“All of our visual artists and many of our filmmakers at Indie Grits Visiones are of Latin American descent, and we’re proud of our relevant programming and excited to demonstrate the ways the arts, film and the rest of our programming can bring cultural understanding,” said Amada Torruella, co-curator of Indie Grits Visiones.

Festival passes and tickets are available at IndieGrits.com, which also lists the festival’s full event schedule, including Noche de Visiones featuring Curtis Harding and Lambchop, our Visiones artistic cohort premier, a Food Truck Parranda and films by more than 80 filmmakers.
