Aflac provides upgrades for United Way’s Eye Clinic for Uninsured Adults

June 26, 2017

WellPartners, United Way of the Midlands’ dental and eye clinic for uninsured adults in Richland, Lexington and Fairfield counties, recently received major upgrades thanks to a grant from Aflac.

The grant allowed for WellPartners to upgrade its optical fitting room for increased efficiency as well as purchase new chairs and a scanner.

Now averaging 120 patients per month, these new upgrades have allowed the clinic to greatly increase the capacity of people United Way is able to serve.

From July 2016 through May 2017, WellPartners served more than 1,323 eye patients and provide more than 1,200 pairs of corrective lenses at no cost to the patients; an estimated value of $252,512.

“Not only does the new fitting room bring pride and comfort to patients and staff but it also increases the overall efficiency of the clinic,” said Sara Fawcett, President and CEO of United Way. “The new upgrades are conductive to fitting and adjustments to help make the examination process smoother and faster for patients. We are thankful for Aflac’s financial support in making this possible.”

“As our three founding brothers built the foundation for Aflac to be there in times of need, we continue to uphold these values,” said Virgil Miller, Chief Administrative Officer of Aflac. “A commitment to philanthropy is ingrained in the spirit of our workforce, our independent sales force, and our company. Aflac is proud to partner with United Way to help update its optical fitting room to enhance the patient’s experience while at the clinic.”
