Amazon donates 700 smoke alarms to local fire departments

November 10, 2016

Representatives from Amazon recently donated 700 smoke alarms to the Lexington County Fire Service and several other Midlands fire departments, which will be installed in local residences.

The smoke alarms were delivered to the Lexington County Fire Services’ headquarters on Tuesday, Nov. 8, and were then given out to Newberry County Emergency Services, Aiken County Emergency Management Division, Calhoun County Fire Department, Rural Fire Commission, Fore Motte Fire Department, St. Mathews Fire Department, Columbia & Richland Fire Services and the Irmo Fire Department.

“We’re pleased to give back to communities where our customers and associates live and work,” said George Schultz, general manager of Amazon’s local fulfillment center. “Smoke detectors are vital to any fire-safety program, and we’re glad that our donation will be put to good use.”

The agencies that received the smoke alarms will be able to give the alarms to residents around their communities and show them how to properly install them ahead of the holiday season.

The donation of these smoke alarms goes a long way in helping to create fire safe communities in the Central Midlands.
