American Red Cross of Lowcountry SC announces new board member

May 10, 2016

The American Red Cross of Lowcountry SC announced that Dave Miller has joined the Board of Directors. Miller brings 22 years of experience working in blood services in the US Army and 18 years of experience working at the American Red Cross National Testing Laboratory in Charlotte to the Board.

“It’s with great pleasure we welcome Dave Miller to our Lowcountry SC Board of Directors. We are fortunate to someone so dedicated to serving our country and the Red Cross,” said Paula Heinauer, chair of the board nominating committee.

Miller has dedicated 40 years of his life to public service. Working as an officer in the Medical Service Corps, he directed clinical laboratories, blood donor centers and transfusion services at Army hospitals both domestically and internationally. After retiring from the Army, Miller joined the Red Cross at one of the largest blood donor testing laboratories in the country. During his 18 years at the American Red Cross National Testing Laboratory in Charlotte, the facility tested over 20 million blood donations and apheresis products.

“I am grateful to have the opportunity to work in a new capacity with the American Red Cross as a member of the Lowcountry Board of Directors,” said Miller. “It is fulfilling and rewarding to continue to be a part of the Red Cross.”

The American Red Cross is committed to serving the Lowcountry by providing lifesaving blood products, and preventing, preparing for, and responding to local emergencies. In the Lowcountry, the Red Cross distributed more than 55,700 units of blood to local hospitals during FY15. Additionally, each year in the Lowcountry, the Red Cross provides food, shelter, comfort and hope to more than 1,200 people who face emergency situations, supports members of the military, veterans, and their families, and teaches lifesaving skills such as first aid and CPR.
