April 30 at Boone Hall: Starlight Pops all about great food, music, artisans
February 25, 2011CHARLESTON, SC – April 30, 2011 – For the 25th consecutive year, First Federal will present Starlight Pops, a spring staple on lowcountry calendars with a pops concert from the Charleston Symphony Orchestra (CSO), regional arts and crafts vendors, an art village featuring artists from the Charleston Artist Guild, elaborate picnicking and plenty of time to stroll the grounds. This year’s event takes place on April 30 at Boone Hall Plantation.
First Federal joins the community in celebrating the rebirth of the Orchestra, and will donate proceeds from the event back to CSO youth and education outreach programs. The CSO has been a vibrant part of the lowcountry arts community for 75 years, and at the center of Starlight Pops for 25 (years), said Linda Weber, First Federal Public Relations Manager. We’re thrilled to welcome the CSO back, and proud to enhance our partnership with them by donating the proceeds of this event to classroom outreach programs. First Federal also has a rich history in the classroom as a business-education partner within numerous schools so this gift is very much in keeping with our mission.
Starlight Pops gates will open at 4 p.m. and the public is encouraged to arrive early to enjoy all the activities. Bring beach chairs or blankets for seating and a picnic and participate in the annual picnic judging contest beginning at 6:45 p.m. Prizes will be awarded for Best First Time Picnic (for Starlight Pops newcomers), Best Lowcountry Recipes and Picnic You’d Most Like to Be Invited To. Picnic judges include Teresa Taylor, food editor at The Post & Courier, Pops Conductor Alex Agrest and other lowcountry celebrities.
Limited concessions will be available and will include heavy hors d’oeuvres, beer, wine, champagne and soda, for sale by 82 Queen.
Pre-concert music begins at 5:30 p.m. and includes performances from the Summerville High School Steel Drum Band, the chorus from Jennie Moore Elementary School and several school performance groups.
