Art exhibit features local artist Jim Harrison

WEST COLUMBIA, SC – Continuing with our rotating arts program featuring local artists, Columbia Metropolitan Airport announced an exhibit featuring renowned artist Jim Harrison.
The exhibit is on display in the connector of the terminal leading to the departure gates. Jim’s current exhibit features South Carolina coastal scenes as well as rural scenes reminiscent of a simpler time.
A full-time artist for more than 50 years, Jim’s one-man shows have included the prestigious Hammer Galleries in New York and the Conacher Gallery in San Francisco with his paintings also included in the renowned National Academy Gallery in New York.
Jim’s work is known for chronicling earlier twentieth century rural life with subjects such as country stores, covered bridges, churches, and railroad stations. His journey as an artist began when he first climbed onto a sign painter’s scaffold, at the age of 14, on the side of McCartha’s Hardware in Denmark, South Carolina. The Coca-Cola sign that he began that day with his mentor, J.J. Comforth, shaped the future work of this South Carolinian in many ways.
