MONCKS CORNER, SC – Berkeley County School District and the Lowcountry Food Bank collaborated to provide families affected by the recent severe rain and flooding with meals.

On Thursday, October 8, 2015, the Lowcountry Food Bank delivered 80 boxes, with 10 Backpack Buddies bags in each box, to Berkeley County School District’s Child Nutrition Services Office.

Berkeley County School District’s Chief Financial Officer, Brantley Thomas, said, “Berkeley County Schools is so thankful to have a relationship with the Lowcountry Food Bank. Through the relationship in some schools through programs like BackPack Buddies, School Pantry and Kids’ Café, they collaborated with us to support all of our schools for families in need during the recent storm so our children would not go hungry. If you’re looking for an organization to support, please consider supporting the Lowcountry Food Bank. I’d also like to acknowledge and thank our school nutrition staff for organizing the distribution of the meals to the schools in Berkeley County.”

Once the Lowcountry Food Bank delivered the boxes, the district’s Child Nutrition Services Office distributed the food to all of the schools in the district.

Lowcountry Food Bank President and CEO, Pat Walker, said, “We are proud to partner with Berkeley County Schools to feed our community’s children in the wake of the devastating floods. The Lowcountry Food Bank relies on partnerships with schools, educators and various community partners to help reach children and families in need both during disaster relief and beyond.”
