MONCKS CORNER, SC – Berkeley County School District (BCSD) has partnered with Odysseyware, a leading provider of virtual learning, to provide curriculum for the students participating in Goose Creek High School’s student-run branch of Heritage Trust Federal Credit Union. The district is using the platform Odysseyware to provide one component of its Virtual Learning Program.

Vice President of Marketing for Odysseyware, John Kreick, said, “Use nationwide by thousands of schools, Odysseyware’s flexibility allows for the creation of individualized solutions that align with and support the needs and vision of education partners. The Odysseyware learning management system and research based and proven core curriculum, assessments and robust and targeted learning tools provide administrators, teachers, and students with powerful learning solutions that can be utilized in a myriad of instructional setting, such as blended, flipped and virtual.”

On August 25, 2015, Goose Creek High School and Heritage Trust Federal Credit Union (HTFCU) opened the first student-run credit union high school branch in the tri-county area. Students in the program attended training sessions throughout the summer at the HTFCU headquarters and at the Goose Creek branch. With the addition of Odysseyware to the course delivery, students will receive instruction by a variety of means, including classroom, virtual and hands-on in the student-run branch itself.

Director of Career and Technical Education for BCSD, Tana Lee said, “With the Goose Creek High School HTFCU branch, students have been meeting educational standards through hands-on experience and professional training. Now, Odysseyware is providing a virtual platform for students to master additional objectives through an individualized, nontraditional delivery system. This is a great way for students to meet the Banking Services course standards and fulfill the traits outlined in the SC Profile of the Graduate.”

In the virtual course, students will gain knowledge of the development of U.S. Banking, money, interest, loans and specialized bank services. In addition, students will have an opportunity to review standards that relate to their hands-on learning activities.

Michelle Sharp, business instructor at Goose Creek High and teacher liaison for the Goose Creek High student-run credit union, said, “Since the credit union is far from the traditional classroom setting, Odysseyware will allow my students to work at their own pace through the on-line curriculum while still getting the hands on training this program was designed for.  On a day to day basis, there is so much going on in there that it would be impossible for me to try and teach a lesson; Odysseyware is able to fill that gap to make sure that all the required standards are being met.”
