Be a sweetheart and help feed the hungry this Valentine’s Day

February 6, 2017

The Mast General Store in Columbia is partnering with Harvest Hope this February 11 and 12 to fill the Harvest Hope food pantry. The annual Be a Sweetheart, Feed the Hungry campaign matches each pound of candy purchased at Mast with a $1 donation to help ensure that those in our community who need a good meal will have one.

With Valentine’s Day upon us, candy is one of the holiday’s traditional gifts, and on Be a Sweetheart weekend, it can show others that you care, too. When you buy a pound of candy from the Candy Barrel at Mast General Store, Mast will donate $1 to Harvest Hope Food Bank.  Harvest Hope is able to turn that $1 into four meals, which will feed hungry folks in the local area.

You can also make a difference without making a candy purchase.  Inside Mast Stores you’ll find change collection jars at each register. Mast employees invite you to donate the change from your transaction because your spare change can make a big impact on someone’s life.

Hunger is not discriminatory and is not just an issue within the homeless community. Harvest Hope serves a 20-county area in the Midlands and partners with more than 450 agencies to aid in the distribution of food on a local level.

Like many non-profit organizations, Harvest Hope relies on volunteers and donations for much of its success. There are opportunities to get involved on a personal or group level.  Learn how you can fight hunger in your community with a click over to the website atwww.harvesthope.org
