Blythewood Middle School teacher receives award for Excellence in Communications

The South Carolina (SC) Chapter of the National School Public Relations Association (NSPRA) celebrated the effectiveness of 145 programs and projects from across the state at its annual Rewards for Excellence awards ceremony on April 29 in Columbia. This program recognizes outstanding communications and public relations efforts by South Carolina schools, school districts, and education agencies and associations. Public relations veterans with extensive experience in educational and business communications evaluated 224 entries.

Blythewood Middle School (BMS) was among the honorees for its entry of the BMS Collaborate, Listen, Learn website created by BMS Technology Learning Coach (TLC) Mr. Tyler Abernathy. Mr. Abernathy has served at BMS for nine years. He was a Social Studies teacher for seven years and a TLC for two years. Mr. Abernathy’s purpose statement is, “to create an environment in my school that is collaborative among teachers and students to discuss and reflect on academic practices that will create authentic teaching and learning.”

SC/NSPRA is an affiliate of the National School Public Relations Association. The state chapter is composed of over 109 school public relations practitioners, superintendents, and other educational professionals from across the state. The organization strives to foster development in the field of school public relations and to encourage meaningful community involvement in and understanding of the public school system.
