March 9, 2015

COLUMBIA, SC – The Supreme Court of South Carolina Chief Justice’s Commission on the Profession has honored John S. Nichols of Bluestein, Nichols, Thompson & Delgado (BNTD) as one of five recipients of its inaugural G. Dewey Oxner, Jr. Mentor of the Year Award.

The G. Dewey Oxner Jr. Mentor of the Year Award recognizes attorneys who represent the highest standards of civility, integrity and professionalism. Five winners were selected from the numerous outstanding nominations received. The five winners represent the five years the mentoring program has existed. They were honored at the Bar Convention Plenary Luncheon on Friday, January 23, 2015.

Nichols, a founding member of Bluestein, Nichols, Thompson & Delgado, has actively participated in the Lawyer Mentoring Program since 2011. He was selected because he embodies the meritorious attributes of respect, professionalism and integrity. His “pay it forward” attitude substantially impacts South Carolina’s legal profession for the better.

“John’s leadership, compassion and commitment to advocate for justice on behalf of everyday South Carolinians make him an excellent mentor for young lawyers,” said law partner John Delgado, who is one of the mentors Nichols credits with his own success as an accomplished appellate attorney. “I am honored to work with him; he truly deserves this recognition.”

Nichols has spent his career going above and beyond in the service of others and advocating for fairness under the law. He is a commissioner for the South Carolina Commission on Indigent Defense, a member of the South Carolina Board of Law Examiners and the South Carolina Bar Professional Responsibility Committee. He is past president and a current board member of the South Carolina Association for Justice and chairs the association’s President’s Council.

His practice areas at BNTD include litigation support and appeals, business litigation, personal injury, wrongful death, medical malpractice and criminal defense.
