Bon Secours offers free diabetes prevention program

January 31, 2024

Registration open now for 6-week lifestyle change course

Bon Secours has announced the next session of “Destination Health,” a six-week lifestyle change program aimed at helping people dealing with pre-diabetes or who are at risk for the disease.

The Center for Disease Control estimates 96 million adults in the U.S. have pre-diabetes, and nearly 80% of them aren’t aware of that. Pre-diabetes puts people at a higher risk of heart disease and stroke, so it’s important for them to understand and manage their lifestyle to hopefully prevent progression. That’s why Bon Secours is now offering a new program to help.

The free program will begin March 12 th and continue through April 16 th . It will consist of one-hour informational sessions, held every Tuesday in a group setting. Each participant will receive the My Plate model, a measuring cup and measuring spoons, along with a binder for program materials.

“The approach is completely motivation. Our goal is to provide a safe environment where participants are encouraged to self-monitor while also sharing their journey with others going through something similar,” explained Community Wellness Outreach nurse Irene Pena.

For anyone interested in taking part in the program, contact Allison Harrold, RN, via email at [email protected] or by calling 864-608-0849. You can also learn more about diabetes and the various services available to help at bonsecours.com.
