Brookgreen Gardens’ Cool Summer Evenings Performances
July 10, 2012MURRELLS INLET, SC – Brookgreen is open late until 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday for Cool Summer Evenings wit live entertainment and kids’ activities that are free with garden admission.
Wednesday, July 11 ‘Music in the Live Oak Allee’ features Jessie Wilson, Jr. and Friends (Keyboards and Vocals) This popular local duo perform at many social and business functions, providing an engaging interpretation of hit songs.
Thursday July 12 ‘Family Nights at Brookgreen’– Jerry Walls, naturalist , professional bird guide and co-star of CBS television’s ‘Carolina Safari’, will present educational and interactive program featuring his collection of live animals. This week, Jerry will focus on Turtles and Tortoises—Have Shell Will Travel! The hour-long programs will begin at 5 p.m. in the Lowcountry Zoo area at the Sculpture Center outdoor patio and will be held rain or shine. From 6 – 7:30 p.m., join us at the Welcome Center for ‘Family Fun with Science—Oh, My!’ an interactive program for families. With the same intrigue of spotting lions, and tigers, and bears, science activities will attract participants at stations for K-2 and 3-6 graders. Together, family members construct items and make predictions, view supplies and test choices, or play games to identify things.
July 13 The Austin Mowry Band (Modern Country Band) If country is king, then Austin-Mowery is poised to take the throne. Formed in Myrtle Beach, SC, in early 2012, this four-piece act combines the fresh face of new country in lead vocalist/acoustic guitarist Jimmy Mowery, and talented band mates Alex Austin (vocals/lead guitar), drummer Rusty Hewitt and bassist Jason Kaufman. With a blend of new country hits, a handful of country classics and a few carefully crafted originals, Austin-Mowery is quickly becoming a highly sought-after act.
Visitors are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets to be more comfortable during the performances.
