Brookgreen Gardens Presents: Defending South Carolina’s Coast: The Civil War from Georgetown to Little River
June 22, 2012PAWLEY’S ISLAND, SC – On Thursday June 28 at 3 p.m. in the WallLowcountry Center Auditorium Brookgreen Gardens will host Dr. RickSimmons who will speak about his book titled: Defending South Carolina’s Coast: The Civil War from Georgetown to Little River. The talk is free with garden admission.
Dr. Simmons, a native of the area, is a noted historian and the George K.Anding Endowed Professor of English and Director of the Honors Programat Louisiana Tech University in Ruston, LA. His research credentials inaddition to the lecture title include the books Factory Lives: Four19th-Century Working-Class Autobiographies (Broadview, 2007), HiddenHistory of the Grand Strand (The History Press, 2010), and more thanthirty additional publications. He was the recipient of both theUniversity Senate Chair Award for Excellence in Teaching, Research, andService in 2004 and the Louisiana Tech Foundation F. Jay Taylor Teaching Award in 2005.
