Call for Entries: Make a Scarecrow for Historic Columbia’s Annual Scarecrows in the Garden Contest

COLUMBIA, SC – August 30, 2013 – Enter your historical, ghoulish or traditional handcrafted scarecrows in Historic Columbia Foundation’s annual Scarecrows in the Garden Contest by Sept. 27 to compete for cash, trophies and tour passes. 

The contest is open to individuals, families, businesses, schools and organizations, and participants are welcome to enter more than one scarecrow. The cost to enter a scarecrow is $10 for individuals, families and school classrooms and $20 for organizations.

HCF is also providing a “Sculpting Scarecrows Weekend Workshop” on Sunday, Sept. 22.  For $15, Participants will receive guided instruction, a scarecrow kit and inspiration from previous years.

Community leaders and local celebrities will select the best scarecrows during the Scarecrows in the Garden opening event on Sept. 29, and the public is encouraged to vote for the “People’s Choice Award” and “Best Class Crow” through late October.

The Scarecrows in the Garden exhibit will be on display on the grounds of the Robert Mills House from Sept. 29 through Oct. 31. The exhibit is free and open to the public.
