Callie’s Charleston Biscuits announces expansion

CHARLESTON, SC – September 7, 2011 – Callie’s Charleston Biscuits announced the company’s recent purchase of a new bakery location at 1895 Avenue F in North Charleston, SC – a 94-year-old year Officer’s Quarters on the former Charleston Naval Base. Owner Carrie Morey had her sights set on the historic property at the Navy Yard at Noisette for the new Callie’s Charleston Biscuits headquarters and a recent retail order with North Carolina-based multi-unit retailer The Fresh Market solidified the artisan biscuit company’s need for a larger space. “With Callie’s Biscuits, our goal is to keep the tradition of southern made-by-hand biscuit making alive. I can think of nothing better than breathing new life into an old home where biscuits were likely a staple at every supper.”
Holding a coveted space on the National Register of Historic Places, the Callie’s Biscuits new “Biscuit House” has 3,500 square feet of space and renovations are now underway and with a move date scheduled for late September. “This spacious location is just in the nick of time as we ramp up for the 2011 holiday season and double our business as a result of The Fresh Market deal. Our baking team recently filled The Fresh Market’s inaugural order. It’s the largest order we’ve baked to date with a total of 84,672 individual buttery biscuits” explains Morey. Select varieties of Callie’s Biscuits will be available in all 105 Fresh Market locations beginning on September 5.
