Camp Happy Days to deliver Valentine gifts to children battling cancer

February 1, 2017

Camp Happy Days (CHD), a South Carolina nonprofit, will visit children in hospital pediatric oncology wards throughout the state on February 13th and Valentine’s Day, February 14th. Every year during CHD’s Valentine’s visit, children and teens are gifted a stuffed animal and a handmade card filled with wishes of love and encouragement.

Staff members at CHD have chosen a stuffed puppy with a red bandana covered in the familiar Valentine’s candy hearts as this year’s gift. Pressing the puppy’s paw, will play a sweet tune.

“What cancer takes away; we aim to give back.” Said Teresa Bishop, Program Director at Camp Happy Days. “Delivering surprises to these children on Valentine’s Day is so special, but my favorite moment of the day is walking down the hall afterwards and hearing the music coming from each room. It warms the hearts of the medical staff and CHD staff to know that something so little could have such a big impact on the kids.”

Camp Happy Days’ purpose is to provide free year-round programs, services and support to children battling cancer and their families. Valentine’s Day is just one of many days that CHD brings happiness to these children throughout the state of South Carolina. To cover the cost of the Valentine’s Day stuffed animal, CHD is asking supporters for a $25 donation.

Camp Happy Days will visit Palmetto Hospitals in Greenville and Columbia on February 13th and MUSC in Charleston on February 14th.  If you’re interested in spreading love to children battling cancer for Valentine’s Day, please consider donating $25 at camphappydays.org or contact Julia Passos at [email protected].
