Canada honors Nelson Mullins’ David Wilkins

GREENVILLE, SC – Canada has honored David H. Wilkins, former U.S. Ambassador to Canada and a partner in Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough LLP’s Greenville office, with a Governor General’s Medallion for his service in promoting and enhancing the Canada-U.S. relationship. The award was presented by Governor General David Johnston, Canada’s head of state, during his first working tour of the South.

Mr. Wilkins, who served as ambassador from 2005-2009, was cited for his role in dealing with “several politically charged and divisive issues” such as Canada’s role in Afghanistan, NAFTA, and the softwood lumber dispute.

Mr. Wilkins chairs Nelson Mullins’ Public Policy and International Law practice group with a special focus on U.S.-Canada interests. As ambassador, he helped resolve issues between Canada and the United States, including the decades-old softwood lumber trade dispute. He also worked on issues such as energy, national security, the environment, trade, and travel.
