Cason Development Group announces Cottontown redevelopment

February 6, 2017

Cason Development Group is underway on the redevelopment of 2238 Sumter St. in the historic Cottontown Neighborhood for tenants Indah Coffee Co. and Circa Barber Shop. Cason also has acquired 2222 Sumter St. for future redevelopment.

The 12,000-square-foot building at 2238 Sumter St., the home of Dunn Electric Co. from 1945 until 2000, will be the first retail location for Indah Coffee, which began roasting and sharing coffee at Main Street’s Soda City Market in 2010.

Circa Barber Shop, which opened its first shop at 1332 Main St. in 2014, will have two chairs in a storefront space at the front of the building.

Renovations to the building are expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2017, said Frank Cason, owner of Cason Development Group. The Montgomery Co. of Columbia is the general contractor and SEED Architecture is the architect. An additional retail space will be available in an attached space at the rear of the building. The former warehouse and loading dock could be configured for an outdoor patio and maybe a small music venue, Cason said.

Cason, who purchased both 2238 and 2222 Sumter from Joe W. “Bill” Dunn, plans to preserve many of the historical features of Dunn Electric, both inside and outside the building.

The 4,500-square-foot 2222 Sumter St. is available for lease; Cason has no immediate plans for the building.

Indah will occupy most of 2238 Sumter St. and will include a coffee café, a beer and wine bar, a cupping or coffee sipping/tasting room, conference and meeting spaces, and a roaster space unlike any other in town. The floorplan is being reconfigured so that the roastery will be visible from the café/bar and cupping room.
