CCSD Graduation Rate Up For 2014/2015 School Year

The Charleston County School District (CCSD) announced today that the high school graduation rate for the 2014/2015 school year was 83.8 percent, an increase of 3.5 percentage points.

While the overall graduation rate for the District improved, the largest single year increase was for African American students, whose graduation rate rose from 71.6 percent to 77.8 percent, a 6.2 point increase. The graduation rate for Hispanic students rose from 75.6 to 76.4 percent.

Notable increases in graduation rates include: Stall, St. John’s, North Charleston, Burke and Lincoln High Schools.

Lincoln High School’s graduation rate saw the largest increase at 17.4 points. The schools overall graduation rate rose from 73.1 percent to 90.5 percent.

North Charleston High School’s graduation rate increased 11.7 points, including a 10.5 point increase for African American students.

Burke High School’s graduation rate increased 9.4 points, including an 8.1 point increase for African American students.

Stall High School’s graduation rate increased 8.1 percentage points, including an 8.1 point increase for African American students and a 15.3 point increase for white students.

St. John’s High School’s graduation rate increased 4.9 points, including a 2.9 point increase for African American students, a 10.7 point increase for Hispanic students, and a 1.1 point increase for white students.

“The impressive gains the district is seeing in graduation rates is heartening,” said Gerrita Postlewait, CCSD Superintendent. “Kudos to the students, teachers, principals and parents whose dedicated efforts produced these impressive improvements. But our work is far from done. We must continue to work diligently to ensure that all students are well prepared to engage productively in further learning, careers, and community life when they exit Charleston County Schools.”
