CCSD Superintendent Postlewait rated ‘Highly Effective’ on her evaluation

The Charleston County Board of Trustees evaluated Superintendent Gerrita Postlewait on Wednesday, November 9, 2016. On her evaluation, Dr. Postlewait received an overall score of 3.5 out of 4.0, which is ‘highly effective’. She received a rating of 3.5 or better as it relates to three areas: relationship with the Board, community relations, and instructional leadership. In regards to staff relations, business and finance, and district results, she received a rating of effective, which ranges from a score of 3.0 to 3.49.
All nine of the current board members (prior to the November 8, 2016 election) participated in Dr. Postlewait’s evaluation, which concluded after a 90-minute discussion.
“The Board rated the evaluation as a 3.5 overall. We conclude that the results are an accurate portrayal of the past year,” said Cindy Bohn Coats, CCSD Board of Trustees Chair.
As a result of her evaluation score, Postlewait was eligible for the same percentage of salary increase that may have been provided to other certified employees of the District; however, she wished to defer a pay raise until such time that the District’s budget is stabilized and other leaders in the District receive a pay raise.
“It is most commendable that our Superintendent deferred a pay increase. She has lead our District through a challenging year with many hurdles to overcome, all while maintaining focus on our highest priority- educating children and closing the achievement gap,” said Chris Staubes, CCSD Board of Trustees Vice Chair.
Gerrita Postlewait became Charleston County’s Superintendent of Schools on July 9, 2015.
She brings with her a wealth of experiences as an education practitioner and leader at the district, state, and national levels, and as an executive in the private sector.
She served as Chair of the State Board of Education, as a member of the national governing board of the American Association of School Administrators, and as a consultant for several districts, states, and national organizations. As Chief K-12 Officer for a foundation, she helped establish the national Innovation Lab Network and cofounded Transform SC, a state-wide business-education partnership that fosters systemic educational change.
Dr. Postlewait’s goal is to work with educators, students, parents, and community partners to dramatically increase the percentage of students who are ready to step successfully and productively into careers, college, and life.
