Celebrate Innovation and Racing Excitement in the Upstate – the First ‘Motorsports on Main’ Event

GREENVILLE, SC – September 20, 2010 – Upstate residents now have another reason to come to the beautiful streets of downtown Greenville as the inaugural ‘Motorsports on Main’ event presented by Michelin, races into the City on Sept. 23, 2010. Race cars, special displays, racing simulators, driver autographs, team merchandise, ticket giveaways and family fun will all be part of the scene as companies like Michelin, BMW, and the Clemson University International Center for Automotive Research celebrate their commitment to the American Le Mans Series and prepare for the season finale, the ultimate endurance race known as Petit Le Mans on Oct, 2 at Road Atlanta.

“Upstate South Carolina is home to a number of innovative, technically oriented international companies, universities, and an environmentally committed and diverse community, and it is wonderful to see them coming together to share their progress and celebrate a form of racing that provides the opportunity for so many technical advancements,” said Greenville City Council, Mayor Pro Tem, David Sudduth. “We thank the local companies involved in orchestrating this event and encourage Upstate community members to come experience this exciting display of cars and racing.”
 
All of the action takes place on Main Street in Downtown Greenville, from the Peace Center to Camperdown Way beginning at 1:00pm and running through until 9:00pm. The event is free and will take place rain or shine. Participants at Motorsports on Main will include (subject to change):

The Petit Le Mans race held at nearby Road Atlanta each fall is an increasingly important and prestigious international event including manufacturer entries from BMW, Audi, General Motors, Peugeot, Porsche, Mazda, Ferrari, HPD, Ford, and the debut of the new Porsche GT3 R Hybrid.
