Chancellor Moore To Participate In U.S. House Subcommittee Field Hearing On Higher Education And Job Growth Initiatives

SPARTANBURG, SC – August 14, 2011 – Dr. Thomas Moore, chancellor of the University of South Carolina Upstate, will participate in the U.S. House Committee on Education and the Workforce field hearing on Tuesday, August 16 at 1:00 p.m., which will be hosted by Virginia Foxx (R-NC) and Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-SC). The field hearing, entitled “Reviving our Economy: The Role of Higher Education in Job Growth and Development,” will take place in the Carolina First Gallery at Clemson University’s International Center for Automotive Research (CU-ICAR), located at 5 Research Drive in Greenville.
A quality higher education system and a strong workforce are vital to America’s success in an increasingly competitive global economy. Both areas require flexibility and adaptability; they rely on constant innovation to keep pace with rapid changes. As the Subcommittee on Higher Education and Workforce Training works to improve higher education in the nation and encourage lasting economic growth, it is actively seeking input from communities to learn about local solutions to education and workforce needs.
Dr. Moore will be joined by Mr. James F. Barker, president of Clemson University; Dr. Keith Miller, president of Greenville Technical College; and Ms. Amy Hickman, president of ECPI College of Technology. This group’s testimony will focus on the ability of higher education institutions to successfully prepare graduates to join the workforce.
