Charleston Metro Chamber receives 5-Star accreditation for the third consecutive time

April 10, 2017
The Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce has received 5-star accreditation from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.

The U.S. Chamber announced the accreditation of 13 chambers of commerce, including the Charleston Metro Chamber, at its board meeting in March.

“We are thrilled to hear that the Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce has earned the much distinguished 5-Star Accreditation from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce for the third consecutive time, positioning us in the top .2 percent of 7,000 chambers nationally!” said Bryan Derreberry, President and CEO of the Charleston Metro Chamber. “This is the highest level of accreditation given to a Chamber, validating our work and value for both our region, our local communities, our economy and our members.”

U.S. Chamber accreditation recognizes excellence in chamber planning and performance. To achieve accreditation, a chamber must demonstrate quality programs, clear organizational procedures and effective communications by meeting minimum operation and program standards in the areas of governance, program development, government affairs and technology.

“When we accredit a chamber, we’re saying that we see somebody whose governance, whose financing, whose programs, whose staffing, are responding to the needs of today, not to the needs of yesterday,” said U.S. Chamber President Tom Donohue.

Local and regional chambers are rated “Accredited,” “Accredited with 3 Stars,” “Accredited with 4 Stars,” or “Accredited with 5 Stars.” State chambers are rated “Accredited State Chamber,” or “Accredited State Chamber with Distinction.” The final determination is made by the accrediting board, a committee of U.S. Chamber board members, and chamber CEOs from across the country.

“The 5-star accreditation is a testament to the hard work and passion of the staff and volunteer leaders. This chamber is by far one of the best in the nation. No other organization in the region is more committed to growing our community in a positive way,” said Patrick Bryant, Chairman of the Charleston Metro Chamber Board.

“Thank you to our volunteer leaders, our members and the Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce staff who work together to excel in our mission to initiate, advocate and empower our region to advance a prosperous business environment for all,” said Bryan.
