First Match to be held on Sept. 9th at Family Circle Tennis Center

CHARLESTON, SC – September 9, 2010 – The Charleston Pro Tennis League (CPTL), a non-profit Davis Cup style team tennis league, is returning to Charleston, S.C. for its ninth season.  Competition will be held every Friday night for seven consecutive weeks, beginning at 6:30pm on September 9 at the Family Circle Tennis Center on Daniel Island.  Four teams of the best tennis talent in the Lowcountry will compete for prize money in doubles and singles competition.  This year’s format has been modified to showcase one singles and three doubles matches.  The purpose of CPTL is to create a competitive environment for high-level tennis players and to promote local tennis while providing high-quality community support and entertainment.  All CPTL events are free to the public, with food and beverages provided at most events.

“The Charleston Pro Tennis League is packed full of the best local talent, including many former collegiate players and current teaching professionals from the Lowcountry,” said Chris Henderson, CPTL co-founder.  “The thirst for tennis in the area continues to grow, proving that Charleston is truly the Best Tennis Town in America.”

CPTL players compete for actual prize money, with doubles match winners receiving $100 per team, and singles winners receiving $50 each.  Prize money and league operations are supported by local sponsors including First Reliant Bank, Palmetto Mattress, Eyraud Enterprises, Vapor Apparel

“Our family-friendly matches are a great way to spend a Friday night in Charleston,” commented Ellerbe Dargan, CPTL President.  “We provide top quality tennis entertainment and music, as well as food and beverages at most events, to make sure our spectators have a great time at all of our events.  We can’t thank our sponsors enough because their continued support has provided for all of our needs, helping this league, and pro tennis in Charleston, to thrive.”
