Citadel approves budget for 2015-16 academic year

CHARLESTON, SC – The Citadel’s Board of Visitors announced today that the college’s budget, which includes the combined tuition and fees rate for the 2015-16 academic year, has been approved.
The “all-in” costs for upper-class in-state cadets rose only 1.1 percent compared to last year’s all-in costs. To help families of cadets prepare, The Citadel provides the information below for all-in costs. These costs include room, board, uniforms, laundry, dry cleaning, infirmary use, books, haircuts and other expenses not required by most colleges and universities. All cadets must live on campus and wear uniforms which are included in freshmen fees. These costs do not include other fees as determined by the college, such as specific targeted fees or lab fees which vary according to the academic major or schedule of each cadet.

Combined tuition and mandatory fees for the S.C. Corps of Cadets will be raised 2.4 percent for in-state cadets and 3.5 percent for out-of-state cadets. The increase is the same as last year for in-state cadets and slightly lower than last year’s increase for out-of-state cadets. In-state cadets will pay $11,364 and out-of-state cadets will pay $31,780 for tuition and mandatory fees.
The Board of Visitors also approved fees for the evening undergraduate and graduate programs managed by The Citadel Graduate College (CGC). Those fees will increase 2.4 percent for in-state students and 3.5 percent for out-of-state students.
CGC students in graduate programs will pay $551 in-state or $927 out-of-state per credit hour next year. Costs for evening undergraduate students per credit hour will be $442 for in-state and $820 for out-of-state students. Those in professional development programs will pay $129 for in-state and $390 for out-of-state per credit hour.
“To the best of our ability, we are holding flat the level of tuition and mandatory fee increases. We are trying to offer a level of stability for families budgeting for education costs,” said Col. Joseph Garcia, vice president for finance. “We continue to look for tactics that will improve our efficiency and save money, while ensuring The Citadel continues our distinctive reputation for educating and developing principled leaders.”
Citadel President Lt. Gen. John W. Rosa recently received a memo from the chairman of the state’s Senate Finance Committee, commending his and the Board of Visitors’ efforts for a positive trend in keeping tuition increases to a modest level.
Students will receive invoices for the 2015-2016 academic year in July.
