City of Cayce receives new fire truck, residents invited to attend ceremony

March 9, 2016

The City of Cayce announced that the Cayce Fire Department has received a brand new Fire Truck. Cayce Public Safety is inviting all residents to attend a “Wet Down” Ceremony on March 16, 2016 at 3:00pm at the City of Cayce Public Safety Complex (2 Lavern Jumper Road, Cayce, SC 29033).

The Ceremony is a long-standing tradition in the fire service. A “wet down” ceremony is a ritual celebrated by many fire departments in the United States in which firefighters commission a new fire truck by anointing it with water sprayed from the retiring pumper’s tank water. The ritual dates back to the late 1800’s when horse drawn pumpers were used throughout the nation’s Fire Service.

City of Cayce Mayor, Elise Partin, stated, “We are so excited to carry on this tradition and celebrate the City’s new fire truck with all of our residents!”

Following the Ceremony, there will be a demonstration for anyone interested in seeing the department’s newest gear. Cake and refreshments will be served.
