City Poet Laureate spreads poetry across the City for National Poetry Month

April 4, 2018

Month will feature poems on buses, on banners, on sidewalks and in neighborhoods.

The City of Columbia Poet Laureate Ed Madden announced a series of new projects in conjunction with National Poetry Month.

Public poetry activities for the month of April include the third year of Poetry on the COMET, banners on Main Street, stencils of poetry on sidewalks that appear in the rain, Free & Clear – a project spreading poetry themed around homes and community in poetry boxes in neighborhoods all over town, and a typewriter poetry project as part of a series of programming at the SC State House known as EnjoySC.

April is National Poetry Month and over the past 20 years has become “the largest literary celebration in the world with schools, publishers, libraries, booksellers, and poets celebrating poetry’s vital place in our culture.”
