Clemson Impacts magazine earns notable document award

CLEMSON, SC – A Clemson Public Service and Agriculture magazine that enhances economic development in agribusiness, South Carolina’s largest industry, won a Notable State Document award from the South Carolina State Library.
Clemson Impacts, a publication that highlights Clemson research; Extension; and regulatory programs in agriculture, forestry and natural resources, was one of 10 publications and websites chosen from 25,000 state documents.
“We are very gratified that the State Library of South Carolina has recognized the role of ‘Clemson Impacts’ in taking what we learn in our research and extending it to the citizens of South Carolina for their economic benefit,” said George Askew, vice president for Public Service and Agriculture and dean of the College of Agriculture, Forestry and Life Sciences. “The act of imparting what we know to help promote the prosperity of South Carolinians is at the heart of Clemson’s land-grant mission.”
The magazine has a print run of 20,000 and is distributed across the state to a subscriber list that includes home gardeners, growers, agribusiness industry leaders and stakeholders. The magazine also is distributed through Cooperative Extension Offices.
Designer Charlene Mayfield and editor Tom Hallman lead a team of Clemson agriculture and science journalists in producing the free biannual publication.
The winning documents were selected by judges, including State Library staff members, document librarians from around the state, and state employee representatives.
“South Carolina state documents provide a wealth of information, statistics and share a broad range of knowledge about our state,” said Leesa Benggio, South Carolina State Library Interim Director. “I am pleased that we are able to publicly recognize these important publications and websites as notable documents and it is my hope that all South Carolina state agencies continue to produce high quality documents such as these.”
The awards were presented to the winning agencies and authors on May 20 at the South Carolina State Library in Columbia. The event marked the 25th anniversary of the Library’s Notable Documents Awards program.
