Clemson professor honored with construction industry lifetime achievement award

March 23, 2016

Roger Liska, professor and chair of construction science and management at Clemson University, has received the construction industry’s highest honor — the Chairman’s Lifetime Achievement Award — from Associated Builders and Contractors Inc. (ABC). Liska received the award during the association’s national board meeting in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, earlier this month. ABC is a national association representing more than 23,000 members.

“We are proud to recognize Dr. Liska for his years of supporting the industry,” said Doug Carlson, president and CEO of the association. “Education, training and getting young people interested in our industry have been a passion for his entire career. Dr. Liska is ‘Mr. Construction’ in our industry.”

The Chairman’s Lifetime Achievement Award is given to a select few individuals who have given back to the industry.

“Receiving the award is not only a great honor coming from an internationally recognized and outstanding professional construction association as ABC, but serves to remind me of the hundreds of people in my personal and professional life who were instrumental in helping me receive this recognition,” Liska said.

Liska has more than 30 years’ experience in teaching and administration at all post-secondary levels and faculty ranks.

“It is deeply gratifying to see Roger Liska recognized for his outstanding teaching and service to the construction industry,” said Richard Goodstein, dean of the College of Architecture, Arts and Humanities. “Roger is fiercely committed to the success of the students, faculty and programs in his department, and that dedication has been paying off for Clemson students for decades. We are all very proud of him and offer warm congratulations.”

The award marks the second time this month that Liska has been honored at the national level. In early March, he received the first American Council for Construction Education Mark Benjamin Lifetime Achievement Award.  The award, which will be given annually, recognizes “an individual who has demonstrated a profound service to construction education and the development of the next generation of construction professionals.”
