The Columbia Museum of Art opens its 13th season of “CMA Chamber Music on Main” on Thursday, October 30, 2014, at 7:00 p.m., intimately set in the Museum’s gorgeous DuBose Poston Reception Hall. The fan-favorite, five-concert series returns with world-renowned artistic director and cellist Edward Arron.

For the first concert of the season, the CMA welcomes back two Columbia favorites–violinist Tessa Lark and pianist Jeewon Park–to perform the exquisite and charming Mozart B-flat Trio; the passionate and sublime Schumann d minor Trio; and in between, Lark and Arron will play the epic and transporting Duo for Violin and Cello by Zoltán Kodály.

Arron brings the indispensable art of music to our community in numerous ways throughout the season. He will be conducting a master class at USC and performing a concert for the students at the School of Music. He also hosts an outreach program at the Museum in April, where students from Richland One schools will be treated to works by great composers performed by Arron, on cello, and other guest musicians.

Happy hour at 6:00 p.m. Concerts begin at 7:00 p.m. Museum shop and galleries open during happy hour.

Edward Arron
Cellist Edward Arron has garnered recognition worldwide for his elegant musicianship, impassioned performances, and creative programming. A native of Cincinnati, Ohio, Mr. Arron made his New York recital debut in 2000 at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Earlier that year, he performed Vivaldi’s Concerto for Two Cellos with Yo-Yo Ma and the Orchestra of St. Luke’s at the Opening Night Gala of the Caramoor International Festival. Since that time, Mr. Arron has appeared in recital, as a soloist with an orchestra, and as a chamber musician throughout the United States, Europe, and Asia.

In the spring of 2013, Mr. Arron completed a ten-year residency as the artistic director of the critically acclaimed “Metropolitan Museum Artists in Concert,” a chamber music series created in 2003 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Museum’s prestigious “Concerts and Lectures” series. Currently, he is the artistic director, host, and resident performer of the “Musical Masterworks”concert series in Old Lyme, Connecticut, as well as the “Festival Series” in Beaufort, South Carolina, and “CMA Chamber Music on Main” at the Columbia Museum of Art. Additionally, Mr. Arron curates a series, “Edward Arron and Friends,” at the Caramoor International Music Festival, and is the co-artistic director along with his wife, pianist Jeewon Park, of the new “Performing Artists in Residence” series at the Clark Art Institute in Williamstown, Massachusetts.

Edward Arron began his studies on the cello at age seven in Cincinnati and, at age ten, moved to New York, where he continued his studies with Peter Wiley. He is a graduate of the Juilliard School, where he was a student of Harvey Shapiro. Mr. Arron has served on the faculty of New York University since 2009.
