College football facilities get a design boost by Jack Porter

August 30, 2019

Jack Porter, an experiential design group specializing in branded sports environments and interactive design, announces the completion of several projects at Norte Dame, Syracuse University, Indiana University, University of Miami, and University of Louisville as these college football programs kick-off the 2019 college football season.

University of Notre Dame recently completed construction of their impressive 114,000-square-foot indoor practice facility. The field area graphics honor Notre Dame Football’s rich tradition of winning with classic banners representing national championships as well as their unprecedented bowl game success. The entry lobby welcomes recruits with bold branding, including the signature “Play Like a Champion” mantra reimagined into the perfect selfie moment.

On the University of Louisville’s campus, Jack Porter updated the recently renovated Schnellenberger Football Complex by creating bold and unique brand experiences throughout the building with a key focus on the grand atrium. This two story entry is clad with sculptural metallic panels, which together form the wings of a cardinal, and more importantly a dramatic entry into the space. This theme of aggressive angles continues throughout the building including the locker room, team corridors, and lobby.

On Indiana University’s campus, Jack Porter updated the Terry Tallen Indoor Football Complex, which is located under the west stands of Memorial Stadium. With architectural renovations under way in the locker room, Jack Porter upgraded the overall brand experience, starting with the football entrance, connecting corridors, lounge and culminating in the new locker room and Adidas gear display.

Jack Porter also updated Syracuse University’s 87,000-square-foot Ensley Center indoor practice facility with bold graphics and designs for the University’s football, lacrosse, soccer and field hockey teams and updated its training center, which includes a 7,600 square-foot entry pavilion for meeting space and amenities for current players, recruits and staff. The brand experience at Ensley Center builds upon the work completed earlier in the year by Jack Porter in Syracuse football’s operations area, including the team room, players lounge and gear display.

In Coral Gables, Fla, Jack Porter is completing a multi-phased project for the University of Miami’s Isadore Hecht Athletic Center by creating a new NFL hallway that highlights all the Canes in the league with a dramatic “Matrix” like display and a custom display for the signature Turnover Chain to create a memorable experience for recruits that matches the swagger of the Miami brand, celebrates their rich history and sets the stage for new achievements.

“There is a lot of talk about the arms race to create the best football facilities to stay competitive with other top-tier college sports programs,” said Christina Harrell, Jack Porter president. “Our view is that the most impactful facilities are the ones that tell the story the best, the story of the tradition, the history, the culture. Jack Porter considers it a real honor to help our clients dig deep into who they are, what their story is and how to best connect with the right recruits and give their student athletes a home that inspires them and helps them develop as athletes and as people.”

Jack Porter was founded nine years ago by Christina Harrell and Danny Stemann to create transformative, high-impact designs in college athletic facilities. The company has worked with some of the most recognized athletic programs nationwide including: University of Miami, Northwestern University, University of Nebraska, Clemson University, Michigan State University, University of Georgia, Syracuse University, University of South Carolina and Texas A&M University.
