Leadership Columbia Class of 2016-2017 Applications Now Open

The Columbia Chamber’s leadership program, Leadership Columbia, is now taking applications for the Class of 2016 – 2017. Founded in 1942, the program is a 10-month course designed to provide our community with an enduring source of leaders who are prepared and committed to serving their region. Roughly 60 applicants will be selected this summer as the 44th Class of Leadership Columbia.

“Leadership Columbia was created to provide a lasting outlet for tomorrow’s leaders,” says Carl Blackstone, Columbia Chamber President and CEO, “These graduates become the faces of change in our region as volunteers, CEOs, board members and entrepreneurs.”

A skills-building program, Leadership Columbia aims to: identify and motivate emerging community leaders; provide an educational experience with a strong emphasis on social and community awareness; and challenge participants to apply their talents within their community while providing an opportunity to become involved

“Each facet of this program thrusts participants into leadership activities that empower them to not only sharpen their internal abilities, but enhance the environment in which they have chosen to impact,” says current Leadership Columbia Advisory Board Chair, Monique McDaniels.

The class curriculum includes an in-depth look at the critical issues facing the community. Through hands-on experiences, the candidates fully explore topics such as: education, politics, government, arts, economic development, finance, health services, criminal justice, law enforcement, military affairs, tourism and many more.

“When I reflect on my Leadership Columbia experience, it is astounding how significantly the program expanded my leadership skills and my professional development,” says Josh Elliott, Leadership Columbia Advisory Board Chair-Elect, “I couldn’t have asked for a program of greater value to my career and to my small business employer.”
