Columbia Chamber supports the Highway Infrastructure Bill

The General Assembly responds favorably to critical infrastructure need for state.

South Carolina is a state where large corporations as well as small businesses depend heavily on the interstate and secondary road systems. Nearly $400 billion in goods are shipped in or out of our state each year, the majority of which is transported by truck. The action taken today by the General Assembly to override Governor McMaster’s veto of the Highway Infrastructure Bill is proof-positive that we are moving in the right direction to create a better business-friendly environment.

“The Highway Infrastructure Bill, while not perfect, provides a recurring source of revenue to maintain the state’s large road system,” said Carl W. Blackstone, President and CEO of the Columbia Chamber. “In order for our region to thrive, the General Assembly must continue to make these far-reaching, often difficult, decisions,” continued Blackstone.

“I’d like to congratulate the House and Senate in putting the interests of their constituents first and foremost,” said John Singerling, President, Palmetto Health and Chairman of the Columbia Chamber Board of Directors. “This bipartisan action is a win for the people of South Carolina today and well into our future,” he continued.
