Columbia College announces four new Board of Trustees members

Columbia College announced four new members to the Board of Trustees.  The Board, which now totals 24 members, is a diverse group of accomplished professionals who share a commitment to assuring Columbia College students build an academic platform that enables them to impact our society, both domestically and internationally.

Founded in 1854, Columbia College has benefited greatly from the devotion, service, and philanthropy of thousands of alumnae and friends who have contributed to the health and the ability of the institution to serve future generations.

Columbia College educates students in the liberal arts tradition. The College provides educational opportunities that develop students’ capacity for critical thought and expression, life-long learning, acceptance of personal responsibility, and commitment to service and social justice.

Ruth Anne McCarter Collins, is the founder and president of Collins Models in Columbia, South Carolina.  A graduate of the Columbia College Class of 1968 earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Speech-Communication Arts and a Minor in Voice.  Ms. Collins currently served on the Columbia College Board of Visitors and is a Class Agent.  She served on the Columbia College Commission of 150 in 2003 and a Momentum Scholarship Interviewer.

Jonathan Holston, is the Bishop of the South Carolina Conference of the United Methodist Church.   He received a Bachelor’s degree in Religion from University of Georgia, and a Master of Divinity in biblical studies from The Interdenominational Theological Center, Gammon Theological Seminary.  Bishop Holston currently serves on the United Methodist Volunteers in Mission Board of Directors, Lake Junaluska Board of Trustees, and the Board of Directors of the South Carolina United Methodist Foundation.

Kevin Marsh, is the CEO of SCANA.  He received a Bachelor’s of Business Administration Accounting from the University of Georgia and previously worked for Deloitte & Touche Certified Public Accountants.  Mr. Marsh has served on the boards of Epworth Children’s Home, First Citizens Bancorporation of South Carolina and Citizens for Sound Conservation, as well as Palmetto Place Children’s Emergency Shelter, Junior Achievement of South Carolina and Sharing God’s Love emergency support organization.  He is a member of Grace United Methodist Church.

Marsha Moore, retired as the director of the Teacher Induction Program at Armstrong Atlantic State University in Savannah, Georgia.  She graduated from Columbia College in 1970 with a Bachelor’s degree in Art and holds a Master’s degree in Education from Armstrong Atlantic State University.  Ms. Moore was the chair of the Columbia College Board of Visitors and is a member of The Davenport Museum House Endowment Board and the Davenport Campus Master Planning Committee, Alpha Delta Kappa (Georgia Alpha Gamma Chapter), City of Savannah Citizens Committee for Traffic Calming, and The Huntingdon Club.

The Columbia College Board of Trustees members serve a term of four years and are eligible to serve as many as three consecutive terms. In addition to the new trustees, the following board members were recently elected as the 2016-17 board officers: Mr. John C.B. Smith, Jr., Chair, Attorney with Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough and Owner of

John C. B. Smith Real Estate; Mr. Toby W. Goodlett, Vice Chair, Executive Vice President and Retail Services Executive at First Citizens Bank; and Mrs. Helen Nelson Grant ’81, Secretary, Chief Diversity and Multicultural Inclusion Officer with Richland School District Two.
