Columbia Empowerment Zone receives Excellence in Economic Development Award

The Columbia Empowerment Zone Inc. recently received a Bronze Excellence in Economic Development Award for its 2016 project in the category of Economic Development Week from the International Economic Development Council (IEDC).

“On behalf of myself and the CEZ, Inc. Board of Director’s we are honored to have been recognized by our peers and very pleased to share this honor with the City of Columbia,” said Executive Director,Felicia Maloney. “We hope other communities can model our program to promote economic development in their towns and cities.”

 In conjunction with the week of celebration, CEZ, Inc. launched the Vacant/Abandoned Building Incentive Program (VABIP) to encourage building reuse, promote revitalization and economic development within the City of Columbia. Through this program, eleven businesses in the City of Columbia have been awarded a total of $ 200,000.00 to renovate and modernize their workplaces. These projects represent an investment of over $4.6 million into vacant and abandoned buildings within the City. Please note the application process for VABIP has ended.
