Columbia Opportunity Resource (COR) and Midlands Education Business Alliance (MEBA) partner to support the local talent pipeline

March 14, 2017

Columbia Opportunity Resource, a Midlands nonprofit connecting talented professionals in the Greater Columbia area, formed a partnership with the Midlands Education Business Alliance, another nonprofit whose mission has been connecting business and education for more than 25 years, to provide students in the Midlands insight into the importance of civic engagement and the impact it can have on your professional career.

Columbia Opportunity Resource (COR) is composed of over 300 professionals from across the Midlands and is growing everyday. Spanning over 25 industries and ranging from undergraduate students to professionals who’ve been in their career fields for 30+ years, COR’s member base is a diverse and talented representation of the Midlands seeking to not only better themselves and their community, but their peers as well. From leadership development, to promoting philanthropic efforts, to connecting Columbians to the cool and exciting stuff going on in town, COR is here to lead, serve and connect anyone who calls the Midlands home.

Midlands Education and Business Alliance (MEBA) is a dynamic organization with an eye on the future. A leader in the community and a state and national model, MEBA has worked since 1990 to strengthen education and business connections, foster community collaboration, answer workforce needs, promote economic development and enhance the quality of life in the Midlands.

COR and MEBA’s shared goal of attracting, retaining and engaging talent in the region to support and grow the local talent pipeline is exactly why the partnership has been formed. COR will provide MEBA a creative, fun and relatable civic focused portion to the MEBA led student field studies that introduce students to possible career options here in the Midlands. MEBA provides COR a unique way to get directly involved with our emerging talent pool to bring awareness of the “cool factor” of Famously Hot Columbia.

“Collaboration makes it happen, says Mary Snipes, Executive Director of MEBA. We provide the professional connection to emerging talent; COR brings the “cool” to school. Students want to be grown up, let’s show them the big picture of career, volunteer and love your Midlands. Let’s create the talent we seek.”

The partnership will officially  kick off when students return to the classroom in September 2017 and serve students participating in field studies throughout Richland and Lexington Counties.
