Electric duct banks for Bluff Road and North Main Street to be completed by SCE&G

RICHLAND COUNTY, SC – Workers managed by the Richland Penny Program and South Carolina Electric & Gas (SCE&G) have begun electrical duct bank work on two of the program’s widening projects. SCE&G is currently installing a duct bank as part of the Bluff Road Phase I widening project and they will begin work for the North Main Street widening project the week of June 13. The work is being done to place all utilities underground within the project limits.

For the Bluff Road Phase I widening project, SCE&G will be installing the underground electric duct bank along Bluff Road, from George Rogers Boulevard to Rosewood Drive. The electric duct bank will begin in front of Williams-Brice Stadium, extend across George Rogers Boulevard, continue to the outer westbound lane of Bluff Road, cross over Rosewood Drive and end across from the Jaco’s property.

Installation of the duct bank will require the outer westbound lane to be closed throughout the duration of the project, which is estimated to have a completion date in August 2016. In addition, flagging operations are anticipated during the intersection work and during service installations across Bluff Road to property owners.

Beginning the week of June 13, SCE&G will begin installing the underground electric duct bank along North Main Street, from Anthony Avenue to Hyatt Avenue, for the North Main Street widening project. SEC&G will also have another crew begin work the week of June 27 at the intersection of Sunset Drive. The electric duct bank will be installed in the inner northbound lane of North Main Street through the entire project limits. Installation of the duct bank will require one to two lanes to be closed throughout the duration of the project, which is estimated to have a completion date in March 2017.

At least two travel lanes inbound will be maintained during the morning peak hours of 7-9 a.m. and two travel lanes outbound will be maintained during afternoon peak hours of 3:30 -6 p.m. Flagging operations are anticipated during the intersection work and during service installations across North Main Street to property owners.

The electric duct bank will also extend several hundred feet east and west along Sunset Boulevard. Flagging operations will be used during non-peak hours of 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. Travel lanes along Sunset Boulevard will be re-opened during morning and afternoon peak hours.
