CSMS team wins regional qualifier

The Carolina Springs Middle Pig Heads team won first place in the South Carolina First Lego League Lexington Regional Qualifier robot competition that Carolina Springs Middle hosted on January 23.
The Carolina Springs Middle Pig Heads team qualified to compete in the South Carolina First Lego League West State Championship, which will be held on Saturday, February 6 at Easley High School in Easley, South Carolina. Carolina Springs Middle STEM Teacher Allen Hardin coaches the Pig Heads team, which is comprised of Carolina Springs Middle students who are in the sixth grade.
Four additional teams in Lexington County School District One also qualified to compete at the South Carolina First Lego League West State Championship: the Carolina Springs Middle Recycling Wizards team, Lexington Middle School team, Meadow Glen Middle Ballistic Bots team and Meadow Glen Middle Swamp Bots team.
During the Lexington Regional Qualifier, the Pig Heads team and other teams competed in the robot game and core values as well as project design and robot design competitions. The First Lego League’s goal is to stimulate students’ interest and capabilities in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics and increase the number of students who pursue careers in STEM.
Hardin coordinated the Lexington Regional Qualifier robot competition. Lexington County School District One Superintendent Karen Woodward, Ed.D., and Carolina Springs Middle Principal Brice Cockfield attended the event in order to show their continuing support for the First Lego League.
