CSU student, athletics receive Campus Compact honors

Charleston Southern University students and athletic program were honored at Campus Compact Civic Engagement Leadership Summit and Awards Ceremony, hosted at the Whitfield Center for Christian Leadership on campus.

The Charleston Southern University baseball program received the S.C. Student Service Achievement Award for their work with children with disabilities. The CSU baseball team has coordinated and contributed hundreds of community service hours to the Summerville Miracle League. This year, CSU head coach Stuart Lake and the Bucs have volunteered 1,170 hours to community service.

In addition, Charleston Southern senior nursing student Brianna McNeal received the 2016 Newman Civic Fellows Award for academic excellence and service in the community. The SCCC said McNeal has “proven to be, not only a volunteer, but a problem solver and a servant leader among her peers.”  She has been active Eagle Harbor Boys Ranch, Red Cross Blood Drive Coordination, My Sister’s House for battered women, Lowcountry Pregnancy Center and the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Screen Shot 2016-04-11 at 7.47.03 PMCharleston Southern’s College of Nursing has the highest NCLEX pass rate in the state of South Carolina over the past nine years. The nursing program offers undergraduate and graduate degree programs.

South Carolina Campus Compact is a coalition of 17 South Carolina colleges and universities working to promote and develop the civic purposes of higher education. Through this work, the SCCC improves the ability of higher education institutions to partner with their communities to collectively impact community needs and provide real world learning for college students. Members of SCCC collaborate to share and seek resources and best practices, mobilizing students, faculty, and staff toward this end.
