CU-ICAR co-hosts international electric vehicle conference

GREENVILLE, SC – February 29, 2012 – One of the world’s foremost professional associations will meet in South Carolina next week when the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) holds a prestigious first-of-a-kind conference in the Upstate.
 
From March 4-8, more than 1,000 people are expected to attend the 2012 International Electric Vehicle Conference.
 
Conference chairman Joachim Taiber is an automotive engineering professor at Clemson University International Center for Automotive Research (CU-ICAR). While the main conference activities will be held at Greenville’s TD Convention Center, there will be tours, a reception and workshops at CU-ICAR.
 
Attracting such a high profile conference to the Upstate is an opportunity to showcase South Carolina’s leading research and development capabilities, and demonstrate the ability to provide a supplier base for electric vehicle manufacturing, Taiber said.
 
The conference will spotlight CU-ICAR on the international stage, and the strength and potential of South Carolina’s automotive industry, he said. Key trends in technology, engineering, and deployment of electric vehicles and related infrastructure solutions will be featured.
 
Clemson speakers include President James F. Barker, John Kelly, vice president for economic development; Imtiaz Haque, executive director of the Campbell Graduate Engineering Center at CU-ICAR; and Taiber.
 
Other presenters include manufacturers, vehicle component and infrastructure suppliers, utilities representative, telecommunications providers, corporate executives, educators, legislators and venture capitalists.

IEEE has 406,000 members in more than 100 countries, including 235,000 members in the U.S. The organization chose Greenville for the major automotive event over Austin, Detroit, San Francisco and Washington.
